La Scandone Avellino comunica di aver raggiunto un accordo con l’atleta canadese, nato a Vancouver in Canada il 3 Settembre del 1985 Maarten Arthur Leunen, ala di 206 centimetri di altezza. Leunen si è formato all’Oregon University e al termine del suo anno da senior si è guadagnato la chiamata numero 54 al draft del 2008 da parte degli Houston Rockets. Ha esordito in Europa con il Darussafaka Istanbul e poi è stato per cinque anni a Cantù, di cui l’ultimo sotto la guida di coach Sacripanti. Lo scorso anno era a Ulm, dove ha centrato le semifinali del campionato tedesco e chiuso le sue 42 partite con una media di 7 punti, 3.6 rimbalzi, 1.5 assist con il 63.8% da 3, il 44% da 3 e l 85.7% ai tiri liberi. La società sta già lavorando alle pratiche di visto e conta di portare l’atleta in Italia nei prossimi giorni. Questo il commento del coach della Sidigas  Stefano "Pino" Sacripanti: “Sono molto contento di poter lavorare con un grande professionista come Maarten. E’ un atleta che mette sempre prima il risultato di squadra piuttosto che la propria individualità. Lo conosco bene avendolo già allenato a Cantù e sono convinto che aggiungerà un’ulteriore solidità al gioco di squadra di questo team che sta già iniziando ad avere una precisa identità”.
